Pokemon TCG and VGC at Omar’s

Pokemon is a fun and diverse franchise of video games, trading cards, TV shows, comics, and more. Featuring themes of friendship, discovery, and good sportsmanship, the games and media have been exciting fans for decades.

Omar’s World of Comics is your source for all things Pokemon in Lexington! This page is meant to educate players and their guardians on how it all works at our shop. What You’ll Need: The Play! Pokemon program is The Pokemon Company International’s (TPCI) official competitive play program. All players MUST sign up for a Play! Pokemon Trainer ID before attending any tournament, including prerelease, (and ideally before attending League, too). The more registered players attend, the more goodies we get from TPCI for you, our players! Note: Parents of kids under 13 will need to create their own Parent Account before creating their child’s linked account. Filling this out accurately also allows us to properly place players in the correct age brackets for tournaments, so they’ll play against players of their own approximate age.

Beyond a Trainer ID, all you’ll need at Omar’s is basic math, reading, and turn-taking abilities to play the games! We have loaner decks for learning the TCG, and sell an assortment of Pokemon cards and supplies downstairs. The Pokemon TCG is recommended for ages 6+, and the video games are rated E for Everyone; we recommend players be experienced at both battling and building their own decks before playing in our tournaments.

Pokemon League - After-School Club

Fridays & Saturdays 3-5:30pm, $5

Learn, Build, Battle, and Trade Pokemon every Friday afternoon at Omar’s World of Comics! After-School Pokemon Club is a great way to socialize with other kids, learn to play Pokemon Trading Card Game, and to trade cards in a safe environment with guidance to ensure fairness and fun. Signups are recommended ahead of time, but you can also pay at the register when you arrive!

Players who attend Friday Pokemon League events will get a promo pack for signing up!

TCG Tournaments: Omar’s runs regular Standard TCG Tournaments (League Challenges), as well as Prerelease Sealed for new sets and occasional competitive Standard League Cups. Standard currently includes all cards with E, F, or G set legality marks in the corner, as well as older printings of cards reprinted in those sets. Standard Tournament events will feature prize packs for top players in each age division, (Junior, Senior, Master). Learn more at pokemon.com.

VGC Tournaments: We run Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Competitive Battles (aka VGC) as a fun alternative to card tournaments on occasion. A Nintendo Switch or Switch Lite with Pokemon Scarlet or Pokemon Violet and an active Nintendo Online subscription is required for official tournament play. Make sure it is in working order and charged before coming, and that your battle team and team lists are set! Prize promo card packs will be awarded for top players in each division, (Junior, Senior, Master). The current regulation for teams is F.

TCG Prerelease Tournaments: These events feature Build & Battle Kits, which have a 40-card deck and 4 booster packs of the upcoming set to play with in a Swiss-style tournament. Each player will receive 2 booster packs as prizes just for playing through to the end of the event, plus top players in each age category will receive additional prize packs and/or promos. Deck lists are not required for this type of event.
